Synopsis: At the height of the Vietnam War on May 8, 1970, construction workers left their job sites to beat antiwar protestors in Lower Manhattan. The documentary chronicles the rising tensions between the working class and the Democratic Party in a changing New York City, while President Nixon observes the unfolding conflict from the White House.

The Hardhat Riot is directed by Marc Levin and produced by Daphne Pinkerson of Blowback Productions for American Experience on PBS.
